YOUNG people in Shildon are set to be rewarded for their hard work at an awards evening in the town.
The event, sponsored by Shildon Town Council and the Shildon Children and Young People’s Action Network (SCYPAN), aims to acknowledge individual young people, and youth organisations in Shildon, for their achievements in 2009.
There will be eight categories, including young carer of the year, sports, art, and youth organisation of the year, and special awards from Connexions.
The ceremony, which takes place on Monday, March 22, coincides with a market place-style event at the Shildon Civic Hall on the same day, featuring displays and stalls from young people’s organisations based around the town.
Pupils from Shildon’s primary schools - St John’s, Timothy Hackworth, and Thornhill - and the secondary establishment, Sunnydale School, will be attending the event.
The market place is open to the public from 1.30pm to 3pm. There will be entertainment from various arts groups in the town from 5.30pm to 6.30pm at the civic hall, and the awards presentation evening starts at 7pm.
