ANIMAL charity the RSPCA is appealing for information about an emaciated Rottweiler found wandering on a North-East farm track.
The dog was just half her proper weight when she was discovered in Escomb, near Bishop Auckland, with a car seatbelt tied around her neck that appeared to have been used as a makeshift lead.
Inspector Ruth Coxon found the dog following a call to the RSPCA from a concerned member of the public.
She said: "The dog was about half the size she should have been when I found her. Rottweilers are big dogs and she must have lost a lot of weight to be as thin as she was. She must have been neglected for months, not just weeks."
The dog was microchipped and is called Suki, but the rest of the details on the microchip were not up to date and the owner has not been traced.
She was discovered at about 5pm on January 13, although it is suspected she had been dumped sometime earlier that afternoon.
She is being cared for in private kennels where she is recovering.
Inspector Coxon added: "Suki was in such a state when I found her that she obviously hadn’t been cared for properly in a very long time.
"If anyone knows anything about her I would urge them to contact the RSPCA’s 24-hour cruelty line on 0300-1234 999 in confidence."
