YOUNG photographers have been rewarded for their look at the eccentricirties of local life.

The Quirky Ripon photographic competition was held to mark the first national Civic Day, held last month.

Young snappers aged up to 18 were asked to capture the subjects in the city in whatever way they felt appropriate. The entries were judges by a panel from Ripon Civic Society.

Beau Roddis, 11 who goes to Kirby Hill Primary School, won the junior section with her amusing photographs of hens on a picnic bench, taken in Kirby Hill.

Winner of the senior section was 17-year-old Izzy Edwards, who goes to St Aidan's School in Harrogate and lives in Magdalen's Road in Ripon. Her picture, Barefoot at Barefoot Street was judged to be “amusing and spot on target.”

Beau and Izzy both won digital cameras, which were presented by the society’s chairman,, David Winpenny.

Also at the meeting was runner-up in the senior category, Ashley Colman, 16, from Sandringham Road in Ripon. He entered an atmospheric picture of the local canal in the snow, called 'Only a Winter's Day'. He was given a cash prize.

The winning images are now on display in the society's display case in the entrance to Ripon Library.
