ONE of the region’s leading preparatory schools has been rated ‘outstanding’ in a recent two-day inspection.

Aysgarth School, near Bedale, North Yorkshire, was inspected by the Independent Schools Inspectorate last month.

This follows an Ofsted inspection at the school last year, which rated Aysgarth as among the best prep schools in the country.

Two inspections took place last month – one for the Prep School and one for nursery and reception.

The inspectorate is the body approved by the Government for the purpose of inspecting schools belonging to the Independent Schools Council.

It completes an inspection every three years, reporting on the quality of education, teaching, pupil welfare, spiritual, moral and cultural development.

The report states: "The aims of the school are fulfilled extremely well, and the pupils’ achievements are excellent".

Headteacher Anthony Goddard said: "I am extremely proud of this School.

"Teachers and staff go that extra mile for each individual child, starting in early years and onwards."
