Decision due on village prize money

10:45am Monday 15th March 2010

A WORKING party will be set up in Newton-le-Willows to decide to how to spend the £9,500 prize money the village won after being voted best in the country.

A total of three suggestions had been received, a meeting of the parish council was told on March 8.

Councillors felt that the prize money should not be spent hastily and some could be retained for possible future projects.

It was agreed that the process for allocating funds should be transparent and explained to the community.

It was decided to call a meeting of the 16 people who had made the presentation to the judges for the regional awards and to ask them to choose a working party of two parish councillors and town others who would then make recommendations to the parish council.

Newton-le-Willows was named crowned Calor Village of the Year in November last year.
