A MARKET town’s chamber of trade and tourism has a new chairwoman.

Cath Grimsey has taken over the reins of the Bedale chamber from Yvonne Rose, who had been in charge for the past three years.

Mrs Grimsey heads up the successful ShopLocal loyalty card scheme, which was launched in the town a year ago.

Ms Rose was recently appointed chairwoman of the Bedale and villages community forum.

It was felt there was a potential conflict of interest if Ms Rose remained chairwoman of both bodies, so she chose to step aside.

Mrs Grimsey said: "I have been a member of the chamber for a number of years and am happy to step up to the role of chairwoman.

"It is a natural progression, what with me fronting ShopLocal as well."

Ms Rose, who will continue to be a member of the chamber, wished her successor well.

She said: "It is good that there is new blood coming into the chamber, and I am certain that Cath will be a big success.

"We need to get the younger business people in Bedale more involved like this."
