Butcher’s fine fare wins medals galore

A BUTCHER’S shop is celebrating after serving up award-winning sausages, pies and black puddings.

All of the products submitted by William Peat Master Butcher’s into the Pork For Butchers BPEX North-East regional roadshow won awards.

The shop, in Barnard Castle, went up against some of the region’s top butchers at the show held in Harrogate recently.

Each entry started with 100 points before being marked down by judges, with products scoring above 95 receiving gold awards, between 95 and 90 silver and above 85 bronze.

William Peat’s farmhouse sausage, Cumberland with sage sausage and pork pie and pickle won gold awards, while the chef’s Durham black pudding and Aidey’s chef black pudding received bronze.

Their middle bacon, mild dry cured bacon, pork pie and stilton, pork and venison with orange sausage and Durham pork pie won silver.

Jim Higginson, a partner at the butchers, said: “We do not enter a lot of competitions so are really pleased to have done so well at these ones.

“We are very proud of what we sell.”
