AN information roadshow will give residents more information on a new travel scheme in Teesdale.

The events, aimed at older and less mobile residents, will enable residents to air any concerns about Durham County Councils new Link 2 bus system, which will replace the travel voucher scheme which until recently had been in place.

The move to replace the voucher scheme, inherited by the new unitary authority from Teesdale District Council has been a controversial one, with many saying it wont offer the same level of service.

Link 2 will offer a taxi bus service which will allow users to travel regularly into local towns and villages.

The service will be free to those residents holding a concessionary bus pass and will link with other bus services or cover journeys where ordinary bus services are unsuitable or unavailable.

A range of partner organisations and council services will also attend the road shows, including community fire and police officers, Age Concern, Energy Saving Trust and various council departments to improve awareness of services available.

The road show will take place on the following dates: April 13, Cockfield Reading Rooms (10am-2pm); April 15, Hamsterley Village Hall (11am-2pm); April 16, Butterknowle Village Hall (10am-2pm); April 19, Staindrop Scarth Hall (10am-2pm); April 20 and 21 Witham Hall, Barnard Castle (10am-2pm); April 22, Toft Hill Community Centre (10am-2pm); April 23, Evenwood Randolph Centre (10am-2pm); April 27, Gainford Village Hall (10am-2pm); April 28, Middleton-in-Teesdale Village Hall (10am-2pm); April 29, Cotherstone Village Hall (10am-2pm).
