PUPILS sampled a day in the life of Durham County Council workers under a new initiative to prepare them for the world of work.
Robert Dudden, Connor Redden, Chloe Collinson, Josh Shepherd, Harry Humble and Owen Shield, all year nine pupils at Staindrop School, were given a tour of council headquarters at Durham.
They also met with senior managers to find out what they do, what qualifications they needed for the role and what they enjoyed about their job.
The visit was arranged by Durham County Council’s corporate workforce planning team, which is coordinating activities as part of County Durham Economic Partnership’s Learning the Business initiative.
The pupils are all in the first year of a three year business and language course at the school and they met with key council staff from the marketing and communications and finance and human resources departments.
Learning the Business aims to prepare young people for employment, develop employability skills and raise awareness of job opportunities available.
Last month pupils toured the Freeman’s Quay leisure centre, in Durham, to discover what goes on behind the scenes to ensure the complex is runs smoothly.
