A DROP-IN centre for young people will be transformed into a charity shop for two days of the week as members try to raise much-needed funds.
The YMCA on Galgate in Barnard Castle will be open to the general public on a Friday and Saturday from 10 am till 4pm.
The shop, which will be run by volunteers, will stock a range of clothes, toys, books and bric-a-brac. Donations can be left in the yard at 46 Galgate or left at the drop in centre when it is open every evening.
Tracy Blandford, CEO of YMCA Barnard Castle, said: "We are very excited about the new venture welcoming the general public into the drop in, in Barnard Castle will allow people to see what facilities are on offer to young people as well as support the work by buying some of the great value products we have on sale."
YMCA Barnard Castle opened its doors in 2006 and since then has worked with hundreds of young people providing them safe places to go. The centre now has outreaches at villages throughout Teesdale.
The charity shop will open its doors for business on January 15. Anyone interested in volunteering in the should e-mail ymcabarnardcastle@zen.co.uk or call 01833-695780.
