Road tax
OUR beloved Chancellor has raised,
by a considerable amount, the
vehicle licence duty on my car. I owe
no finance on my car, it is well
maintained and suits my lifestyle, so
why should I be forced into debt to
buy an unsuitable car with "lower
emissions" to save on road tax?
I can offset the CO2 produced by
my car for as little as £26 by buying
a package from The Carbon Neutral
company of carbon reduction
measures which will negate any
emissions produced by me.
If I produce my certificate of
purchase will I then be allowed to
purchase the lowest priced tax disc?
No. The Government doesn't give
two hoots about climate change
(inevitable, anyway). Just like the
other cash cow, speed cameras, road
tax, which isn't spent on anything
worthwhile anyway, is a means of
Government fleecing motorists - an
easy target.
Will a change of government
bring about a reprieve? I doubt it.
They're all rogues. In an election
now, I vote for who I consider is the
least roguish, regardless of party, I
am an adherent of Mark Twain in
that respect.
B Kidd, Stockton-on-Tees.
