June 30, 2005: Jenny Nicholl leaves her family home.

July 4: Police are called when Jenny fails to show up for work. Her car is found abandoned in Richmond.

July 8: David Hodgson tells police he has never had a relationship with the teenager.

July 9: Two of Jenny's friends receive texts from the teenager's phone.

July 12: Jenny's father receives two texts from his daughter's phone.

July 7: A dedicated incident room is set up at Richmond police station.

Twenty officers are assigned to the case.

July 26: David Hodgson arrested in Richmond in connection with an alleged attempt to pervert the course of justice. He is released after admitting he is friends with Jenny.

July 29/30: Mountain rescue volunteers with tracker dogs are brought in to search countryside around Hudswell, near Richmond, for David Hodgson.

He is found in a crudely constructed den, having taken an overdose of pills and wine. He is suffering from hypothermia and is taken to hospital.

August 5: David Hodgson is questioned again by detectives. He now tells detectives his life revolved around the teenager.

October 17: Police search Robert Hodgson's flat.

November 3: Police reveal the missing person inquiry is a murder hunt.

December 13: Ann Nicholl appeals on BBC Crimewatch for information.

January 17, 2006: David Hodgson and his brother, Robert, are arrested on suspicion of murder. David is later bailed, while Robert is freed without charge.

February 1: Brian and Ann Nicholl find a nightdress and cosmetics they say belong to their daughter partially buried under leaves at Sandbeck Plantation.

A CD player and Jenny's teddy are later found in the woodland.

May 16, 2007: David Hodgson arrested and charged with murder.

January 15, 2008: The trial of David William Hodgson, 48, begins.

February 19: Hodgson found guilty of murder.
