B&B Indecent Assault Trial
Court told of sex assault on girl, four
A PENSIONER who once ran a bed and breakfast sexually abused a guest's daughter, a court heard yesterday.
The girl was aged four when Christopher Dance is alleged to have put her on a bed and indecently assaulted her.
A jury was told that the youngster kept the attack a secret until she was ten, when she told her mother she had been raped.
She also made an entry in her diary saying she had been raped, said prosecutor Christopher Attwooll. But when the alleged victim's mother explained what a rape was, the youngster said that was not what had happened.
Mr Attwooll told Teesside Crown Court that the matter was dropped until the girl came home upset one day last year. By this time, she was aged 15 and was able to tell her mother exactly what she believes happened to her at the east Cleveland B&B.
Mr Dance, now aged 65, of Skerries Close, Redcar, east Cleveland, denies a charge of indecent assault and faces a three-day trial.
The court heard that at the time of the alleged offence, he ran the B&B, in Pearl Street, Saltburn, with his wife, Jenny.
Mr Attwooll told the jury: "She kept it quiet for a number of years, but she was confused as to what rape actually was.
"It was only in 2006 when she came home one night and became very upset and told her mother in some detail what happened to her.
"As a result of that she contacted the police, the defendant was arrested and interviewed and he effectively denied ever having done anything of that nature."
The trial continues.
