Unsung heroes shortlist revealed

THE final shortlist for awards honouring the cream of Darlington's unsung heroes has been announced.

 The Categories

Nominations are sought for the following categories, using the application form printed below or from Darlington Borough Council

Contribution to Sport
For groups or individuals who have made a major contribution to sport or have been a role model for others (sponsored by Polam Hall School)

Contribution to the Arts
For groups or individuals who have made a major contribution to the arts or have been a role model for others (tbc)

Contribution to Business
For extraordinary achievement, commitment or promotion of the borough by businesses (Openreach)

Contribution to the Environment
For community groups or businesses which have made a positive impact on environmental projects (Groundwork West Durham & Darlington)

Outstanding Vocational Learner
For a person who has shown commitment and determination to study or achieved success despite difficult circumstances (Darlington College)

Academic Excellence
For a person who has demonstrated outstanding academic achievement (Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College)

Neighbour from Heaven
For people who have demonstrated kindness to neighbours (Soroptimists International Darlington & District)

Contribution to the Community
(one for adults, one for young people)
For groups or individuals involved in community activities (Darlington Borough Council and Sherwoods Chevrolet)

Putting Darlington on the Map
For an individual, company or group who have made the country or wider world aware of Darlington (The Northern Echo)

Volunteer of the Year
Awarded to an individual or group who has shown outstanding commitment in their voluntary field without expectation of reward or recognition. Sponsored by eVOLution Darlington.
