Bowburn company recognised as a healthy place to work

P C Henderson Limited in Bowburn, who make sliding doors for domestic, commercial and industrial use, have been recognised for their efforts in boosting the wellbeing of their staff.

The company will be awarded the bronze level Working for Health award from NHS Darlington’s health improvement service.

The award will be presented by Elaine Jackson, workplace health improvement specialist for NHS Darlington to Victoria Hayes, UK and Ireland regional human resources director, Dave Quickmire, health and safety and quality manager and the healthy workplace steering group. The Working for Health Award aims to encourage and reward employers who promote a healthy workforce and workplace.

Participation in the award scheme has supported P C Henderson’s in successfully supporting staff to quit smoking and as part of the promotion of physical activity with 21 members of staff taking part in the Durham Big Ride on 6 September 2009 raising £1000 for charity.

P C Henderson Limited employs 75 people and has been manufacturing sliding and folding hardware for doors and windows since 1921. Working for Health is now seen as a major part of the company’s Health and Safety culture and the next step is to achieve the Silver Award.

Victoria Hayes, UK and Ireland Regional Human Resources Director for PC Henderson Limited, said: “We are delighted to receive the Working for Health Bronze Award.

“This award recognises that our company is committed to focusing on improved health for their workforce, by developing healthy working conditions, offering health information at work and practical help to be healthy.”

The 'Working for Health' award scheme enables the community health services team, in partnership with local businesses, to achieve health benefits for staff at every level across County Durham and Darlington, their families and their communities.
