Consett YMCA recognised for its efforts in promoting good health to staff

The YMCA at Consett has been rewarded with the bronze level of the Working for Health award for boosting the wellbeing of their staff.

The Working for Health Award aims to encourage and reward employers who promote a healthy workforce and workplace.

The work to achieve the award was undertaken by Lucy Robson, youth and community health worker, who implemented a health needs assessment which led to the setting up of a successful stop smoking group, healthy eating and stress buster sessions and team competitions with a health theme supported by members of the NHD Darlington’s health improvement service. Nick Springham, consultant in public health for NHS County Durham presented the award to Billy Robson, Chief Executive and the rest of the healthy workplace steering group. Nick said: “I am delighted to be presenting the Working for Health Bronze Award to the YMCA at Consett.

“This award demonstrates that they are committed to focusing on improving health by developing healthy working conditions, offering health information at work and practical help to make healthy choices easier”.

Billy Robson, Chief Executive for the YMCA at Consett, said: “We are delighted to receive the Working for Health Bronze Award. This award recognises that the YMCA at Consett is committed to focusing on improved health for their workforce, by developing healthy working conditions, offering health information at work and practical help to be healthy.”

The 'Working for Health' award scheme enables the community health services team, in partnership with local businesses, to achieve health benefits for staff at every level across County Durham and Darlington, their families and their communities.
