A MAN is tackling Ben Nevis next weekend in a Father’s Day challenge to raise money for the charity helping his young son.
Stephen Armstrong’s two-year-old boy Jacob has bone marrow failure and may require a stem cell transplant.
To raise awareness of the need for more donors, and money, for Anthony Nolan, the charity that could potentially save the youngster’s life, Mr Armstrong, from Newcastle, and a 35-person strong team of his friends and family have banded together to undertake a variety of challenges, already raising over £9,000.
He said: “When Jacob first became unwell we needed something to hold us together and we set up these events. They kept us busy and we thought if it created a ripple effect that got just one person to join the register it then we had to try and do it.
“For us it’s not just about raising money, we really want more people to join the register so that they could save someone’s life.
“The meaning of being a father has changed for us and it made me appreciate the bond with Jacob a lot more than I did.”
