A HOSPITAL suffered an infestation of flies at the weekend.

Pest control were called to deal with flies gathering in wards at Darlington Memorial Hospital on Saturday.

A spokesperson for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust said: “On Saturday June 2, we were alerted to a problem with flies gathering inside window areas on a ward area at Darlington Memorial Hospital.

"We would like to apologise to any patients who may have been concerned about the problem.

"We believe this was due to the warm weather and many windows being open during the day and overnight.

"As soon as we were aware of the problem, we contacted the Trust’s pest control supplier in line with Trust policy.

"Pest control was on-site within a matter of hours and carried out a course of treatment around the windows to manage the issue.

"They returned the following day to confirm that the problem had been resolved.”
