EFFORTS to cut smoking rates in the North-East have won Parliamentary praise.
Public Health Minister Steve Brine said the region and specifically campaign group Fresh were the “apple of my eye” in this policy area.
In 2005 29 per cent of the population were smokers, a rate which fell to 17.2 per cent in 2016.
