A SERVICE providing information and support to people affected by cancer has been officially opened.

Cancer Information Centres at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, which provides a confidential service for anyone with questions or concerns about cancer, is staffed by two cancer information specialists funded by the charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

People will be able to pick up booklets, leaflets and other sources of information free of charge, and visitors can also access welfare benefits and financial advice.

No appointment is necessary and all are welcome - whether they have a cancer diagnosis, are worried about cancer or are visiting on behalf of a friend or relative.

Jan Harley, lead cancer nurse at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Our partnership with Macmillan is allowing us to be able to give more help and advice to people affected by cancer. "
