THE future of a health centre under threat after its private operator hit financial trouble has been secured for at least year.

Thousands of patients were hit by uncertainty after Danum Medical Services Limited, which ran Marske Medical Centre, went into administration last month.

But a new contract with South Tees Medical Ltd will provide GP and nursing services at the Marske premises until the end of next March.

Under the new arrangements patients will receive the same level of services they previously received, meaning no interruption to services and there is no need to re-register.

The new service for the initial 12 months will allows NHS England and South Tees Clinical Commissioning Group to carry out an assessment of health demand and discuss longer-term options.

Dr Craig Melrose, medical director for NHS England Cumbria and the North East, said: “We are delighted to have secured a new GP service for Marske Medical Practice and to be able to reassure local people that they can continue to access services there.

“We have written to all patients to inform them of the new provider and to explain that the same level of service can be accessed and there is no need for them to re-register.

“NHS England and South Tees CCG are now working to find a longer term solution for providing GP services from the medical centre.”
