A CHARITY is reminding veterans of the help it can offer for those suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

PTSD Resolution provides support for veterans, reservists and dependents who are experiencing the effects of the disorder.

According to the charity, around 20 per cent of all ex-servicemen and women suffer from PTSD, symptoms of which include flashbacks, nightmares, depression and other behavioural issues.

Christine McIntyre, of Melsonby, North Yorkshire, who is a therapist working with the charity, said: “PTSD Resolution offers fast help for local armed forces veterans, with no waiting lists.

“Just three to five one hour sessions are usually required to resolve military trauma on an outpatient basis.

“Access is usually free for veterans and reservists and no doctor’s referrals are needed. PTSD Resolution is a very lean organisation; there is no salaried staff or premises and all funds are used for locally based therapy and to provide information of the help available.”

She also said the charity has a success rate of more than 78 per cent in resolving military trauma.

A trauma awareness training session will be held by Ms McIntyre on Saturday, July 4 at Morton Park, in Darlington.
