A NATIONAL scheme which involves placing mental health professionals in police stations and courts is being trialled across two sites in the North-East.
The Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust and the Northumberland and Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust have each received £400,000 in extra funding to support more people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities as they go through the criminal justice system – ensuring they get the right treatment as quickly as possible.
The NHS England funding will enable health staff working in police stations, magistrates and youth courts in Middlesbrough and Sunderland to extend their working hours, help new groups of people and improve continuity between adult and youth services.
