A NORTH-East care company has honoured its brightest and best.

The Helen McArdle Care Recognition Awards were held at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead on Friday night (March 14).

The overall prize of Care Home of the Year went to Park House, Guisborough, and Julie Woods, from Park House, won the head of care award.

Care home manager of the year was Carole Thomson, of Sheraton Court, Hartlepool, while Neil Holroyd, also from Sheraton Court, won the catering team award.

Staff from Melbury Court, Durham, won two prizes: Karen Craggs for best nurse and Tracey Murray for best senior carer.

The firm opened its first care home in West Pelton 25 years ago and now runs 16 across the region.

Founder and chairman Helen McArdle said the awards were her way of saying thank you to her staff.
