Tour of Britain 2009
THOUSANDS of people turn out to watch some of the world's best cyclists leave a North East town on the second stage of the Tour of Britain. Ninety-six riders set off on the 152.3km stage to Gateshead from Darlington Market Place cheered on by a 3,000-strong crowd. Among the competitors were Olympic gold medalist Bradley Wiggins, for GarminSlipstream, and Middlesbrough-born Chris Newton, competing for Rapha Condor.
