30th Great North Run
The real stars of the Great North Run will continue to be the thousands upon thousands of goodhearted fun runners who raise cash for a host of good causes. The half-marathon from Newcastle to South Shields took place under leaden skies. But the occasional drizzle did not dampen the spirits of the 39,520 people taking part, from 54,000 who entered. The event was started by Geordie double-act Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, whose hands were left raw after “high-fiving” thousands of runners.
