AN ART school in Teesside is planning on shedding about ten jobs as part of a proposed restructure.

Cleveland College of Art and Design (CCAD),based in Middlesbrough and Hartlepool, met with unions this morning (Wednesday, June 22) to discuss the proposals.

The University and College Union (UCU) had condemned the college for failing to consult properly and staff being given only three days to reapply for jobs.

Management and the UCU said they were now extending the period of consultation and were trying hard to avoid compulsory redundancies, as well as extending the deadline for job applications.

Stuart Slorach, Vice-Principal of CCAD said: "The College is committed to continue consultation with its staff and the trade union and we are hoping that this extended period allows us to move forward in partnership.

"We look forward to working with UCU to the benefit of our staff and students."

Jon Bryan, regional support officer at UCU, said: "We are pleased that the College met with us today to discuss our concerns and we hope that we can continue to meet and agree ways where compulsory redundancies can be avoided."

UCU officials will meet again with management on June 28.
