DURHAM is among the world’s top 50 universities in seven subjects, according to new league tables.

The new QS World University Subject Rankings make Durham the third best university in the world for geography, fifth best for archaeology and in the top 50 for anthropology, earth sciences, English, history and law.

Last year, Durham was listed among the top 50 in three subjects.

In last year’s overall league table, Durham achieved a highest ever ranking of 61st.

Professor Stuart Corbridge, Durham University’s Vice-Chancellor, said: “Our success in this league table is a tremendous reflection on everyone who works at Durham where we are doing world-class research across all three of our faculties, in sciences, social sciences and health and the arts and humanities.

“I am extremely proud that the work carried out in our departments has been recognised in this way.

“The significant rises we have made in these rankings really demonstrate the role we play globally in making an impact with our research and changing the world for the better.”
