PROSPECTIVE university students are being warned to choose carefully which institution to attend as research reveals one in three North-East graduates wished they had done more research.

The study, conducted by the University of Derby has revealed that 29 per cent of recent graduates in the region wish they had done more research before choosing a university.

With the January 15 UCAS application deadline looming, the University is calling for students to do more research into institutions before making the final decision to avoid disappointment, as the study also found 32 per cent of graduates said their course did not meet their expectations.

40 per cent of those surveyed also said that they chose their university due to location rather than academic reasons, while 21 per cent did not even attend the open day for the institution they chose to study at.

Russell Roberts, head of academic services at the University of Derby, said: “We would urge all students to avoid these kind of pitfalls when going through the university application process."
