A SPECIAL school has been picked out for praise for inspiring its students through sport.

Mowbray School in Bedale offers children a wide range of outdoor activities and sports, from wheelchair rugby and dance to paddle boarding, climbing, surfing and skateboarding

And Disability Sport Yorkshire was so impressed it has named it School of the Year for 2018.

It’s the latest in a string of accolades for the school including the School Games Gold Mark and the Youth Sports Trust Quality Mark. The school is also a hub for the Sports Special Partnership.

Head Jonathan Tearle said: “These activities are delivered by a dedicated team of teachers and teaching assistants and are used to inspire, challenge and encourage resilience with the children.

“I am so proud of the achievements of our PE and outdoor education team, all the staff are so committed to providing the best opportunities for our children and making sure that they fulfil their potential."
