Murderer hands himself in

A MURDERER who absconded from an open prison has handed himself in.

Gary Gibbon absconded from HMP Sudbury, in Derbyshire, on Friday, February 5.

The 43-year-old handed himself in at a County Durham police station yesterday morning(TUES) and is back in custody.

Gibbon brutally beat and killed a drunk down-and-out with a jagged milk bottle neck in Peterlee, County Durham, in 1984.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment at Teesside Crown Court in April 1985.

Gibbon, originally from Jude Place, Peterlee, thrashed the throat of Nat Cook, 43, on the town's Thames Road.
