POLICE are trying to reunite a pair of ornate gates with their owners after the stopped two men carrying them down a street.
The pair, aged 26 and 29, were arrested in Hoxton Street, Scarborough, on suspicion of theft after being spotted carrying their distinctive load at 11am on Monday morning.
They have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
It's not known who the gold and black gates belong to and police are appealing to anyone who can help identify them to get in touch.
PC Rebecca Lalor, of Scarborough police, said: “We believe that the gates are stolen, however as yet nobody has come forward to claim them.
“If they belong to you please contact the police and we will arrange for you to have them back.
“I would also like to hear from anyone who knows who the owner might be and can help us return the gates to them.”
Anyone who can help identify the owner of the gates is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for PC Rebecca Lalor, quoting reference number 12120023053.
