VAN drivers were caught by police reading delivery notes while driving, in a targeted operation by police across Cleveland and Durham.
More than 20 drivers were found to have committed offences as part of Operation Tramline.
The operation aims to detect offences being carried out by those in heavy goods vehicles.
Of the 22 offences committed by the drivers of cars, vans, large and heavy goods vehicles:
- Five drivers were dealt with for using a mobile phone whilst driving
- Ten were not in proper control of the vehicle
- Three did not wear seatbelts
- Two vehicles had overweight loads
- One contravened solid white lines
- One did not carry the correct documentation.
Chief Inspector Graham Milne said: “I’m pleased that this has been another successful operation. However, it is always disappointing to see that people have committed offences and they haven’t abided by the law."
