THEFT: Police would like to speak to these men after a theft at a Boyes store in Whitby
POLICE are searching for two men caught on CCTV distracting a shop cashier and making off with £75 in cash.
The men entered the Boyes store in Station Square, Whitby, and while one distracted the cashier, the other stole the money.
This tactic by thieves is called “ringing the changes” and involves the fraudsters exchanging notes with the cashier to get change, intentionally confusing them to hand over extra money.
The incident happened just after 3pm on November 11 and officers are appealing for information to help identify two men shown in the CCTV image.
Anyone who recognises them can contact police on 101 and ask to speak to PC Lewis Cadden.
