A DRINK driver who was caught twice by police with over three times the legal alcohol limit in his blood has been jailed for 16 weeks.

Danny Mulcahy, 28, from London, was stopped by police on the A171 at Moorsholm, near Guisborough on November 28 and in York on December 8. He pleaded guilty at York Magistrates to two charges of drink driving, Mulcahy was also banned from driving for 42 months and ordered to pay a victims surcharge of £115.

The court was told he was arrested in York after colliding with a taxi. After the hearing Sgt Andy Morton from the Roads Policing Group said :“To get behind the wheel and drive with this level of alcohol in your system is completely irresponsible and so dangerous, but to do it twice within a matter of days just beggars belief. It was pure luck that Mulcahy did not cause any serious injury to any innocent road user or himself.

“I hope this case and the prison sentence handed to Mulcahy makes other drivers think about the seriousness of this offence.
