AN ELDERLY woman has been left with a head injury after being mugged.

THe 67-year-old was walking along Eastbourne Road from Neasham Road in Darlington last night at about 8.20pm when a man on a bike approached and grabbed the lady's handbag from her shoulder.

After a short struggle the woman fell to the ground, leaving her with a head injury.

The suspect fled along the back alleys towards Brunton Street, taking the handbag with him.

Acting Detective Sergeant Stewart Walker from Darlington CID said: “This incident has left the victim shaken and suffering from a head injury.

"We’re appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information particularly regarding any males seen cycling in the Eastbourne Road area of Neasham Road around 8.20pm last night.”
