STUDENTS and staff from one of the region’s biggest colleges have been evacuated after an apparent threat in the form of an anonymous e-mail message was received.
Middlesbrough College, in the Middlehaven area of the town, was cleared shortly after 2pm on Thursday and police were called.
Unconfirmed reports on social media suggested there had been a bomb scare with the building being searched with the use of police dogs.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: “Police are there in relation to an alleged threat.
“We can’t say any more than that at the moment.”
The college later re-opened at about 3.30pm.
Middlesbrough College is based in an £100m campus in Dock Street and attracted record numbers of students starting courses in September.
Investigations into the incident are continuing.
