A MAN who suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car outside a nightclub remains in hospital, police have said.

The 18-year-old man is described as having significant injuries and is being treated at Middlesbrough’s James Cook University Hospital.

He and another 18-year-old man were struck by a car close to the Empire nightclub, on Corporation Road, Middlesbrough, in the early hours of last Sunday morning.

The second victim has now been discharged from hospital, having suffered facial injuries which may require further surgery.

Eyewitnesses suggested the vehicle involved mounted the pavement during the incident which happened when the street was busy with late-night revellers.

A 39-year-old man was subsequently charged with causing injury by dangerous driving and other driving offences and is due to appear at Teesside Crown Court in November.

Cleveland Police said inquiries were continuing.
