ARRESTS have been made after a suspected burglary at a corner shop and a car fire in two rural villages.
Police have confirmed a man and a woman have been arrested in connection with both incidents which shocked residents of both Gainford and Ingleton, in Teesdale.
Explosions from a burning car in Ingleton, near Darlington, woke householders shortly after midnight on Wednesday when the vehicle, thought to be a Renault Clio, was torched.
It followed a raid on The Corner Shop, in nearby Gainford, between Darlington and Barnard Castle.
A police spokesman said: "One male and one female have been arrested in connection with both incidents."
