A MAN accused of a knife murder in Darlington appeared before a judge for the first time this afternoon.

David Jeet Saunders is now expected to stand trial in December for the killing of Michael Lawson, 34.

Mr Lawson is said to have suffered a fatal stab wound following a fight in the early hours of Saturday.

Mr Saunders, 32, of Esk Road, Darlington, appeared at Teesside Crown Court today via a live video-link to Durham Prison.

He spoke only to acknowledge his name, and was not asked whether he was guilty or not guilty.

He will next appear for a plea and trial preparation haring on July 25, while the judge, Simon Bourne-Arton, QC, said a trial could be arranged for December.
