POLICE in a County Durham town have released a photo of the alcohol they seized from underage drinkers during an operation on Friday night.
Officers in Peterlee conducted Operation Staysafe in the town centre, and said that although most young people were polite, more than ten aged between 12 and 17 years old were brought back to a designated 'place of safety'.
A statement on the Peterlee police Facebook page said: "Parents were spoken to and they will be referred to Lifeline - the Drug & Alcohol Service for Co Durham.
"A quantity of alcohol was seized and disposed of at the scene and the picture shows a sample of what was recovered from youths.
"We also issued an irresponsible driver with a warning notice for his inconsiderate driving, and a fine is to be issued to a parent who supplied alcohol to their child.
"Following this we will be visiting licensed premises next week where we suspect the alcohol had come from, and test purchases are also to be conducted."
