A TEENAGER has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was found dead in a flat in York.

The man was found in Holgate Road. Police remain at the scene.

They had been called first to York Railway Station, in the early hours of Monday, after a man was spotted with blood on his hands and acting unusually.

The Northern Echo:

A North Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said on Monday morning: "Officers were called in the early hours of Monday to concerns about the behaviour of a man near York Railway Station who had blood on his hands.

"Police attended the area and found the man in the Scarcroft Road area where he was arrested.

"They later found the body of a man in his 50s inside a flat on Holgate Road in York.

"Scene guards were in place at locations across the city including the scene of the murder at the flat in Holgate Road, a bus stop outside York Railway Station and a taxi rank on Queen Street.

"Offices remain at the flat this morning as the investigation continues."

Two police vans have been parked in Holgate Road, with some activity already taking place in the building behind them.

Scott Waites, 24, who lives in the flat below where the man was found, said he had heard arguing in the flat recently, but not on Sunday.

He said: "This morning my girlfriend got up to go to work, then texted saying police were outside and might want to talk to me. If it's true, then I'm a little bit shocked at the severity but I'm not surprised something has happened."

Two PCSOs arrived on bicycles at about 8.20am and a mobile police office dropped off two more at 8.30am.

The police vans left the scene at about 8.45am, leaving the PCSOs.
