A COLBURN man who was wanted for return to prison has been arrested.

Andrew Edward Garrett, 18, was arrested on Friday morning in the Catterick Garrison area and is due to be returned to prison.

Officers were alerted to the location by a member of the public who spotted a man acting suspiciously.

Inspector Mark Gee, of Richmond Police, said: “A great deal of effort has been made to locate and arrest Andrew Garrett. He has shown a complete disregard to the conditions of his prison release licence by failing to co-operate with the Probation Service.

“Once again, the quick-thinking and community spirit shown by a member of the public has proved vital in securing an arrest. The officers involved also did a great job with their prompt response to the call about the suspicious behaviour.

“We greatly appreciate the continued support of the local community. This case is a clear demonstration of North Yorkshire Police acting on information. I can’t stress enough how important this relationship is to effective neighbourhood policing.

“If you see any suspicious people or vehicles in your area, please do not hesitate to take down the information and report it to North Yorkshire Police by calling 101. As ever, if an emergency response is required, always dial 999.

“At the very least, please pass the information to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. That way you can do your good deed while remaining anonymous.”
