POLICE were left shocked when they pulled over a learner driver in North Yorkshire and both the driver and the person alongside tested positive for drugs.

The red saloon was stopped in Rillington in the Ryedale district on Monday night.

North Yorkshire Police Road Policing Group tweeted: "Unbelievable!! Vehicle stopped #A64 at #Rillington Learner driver tests positive for #cocaine as does supervisor. #TwoInCustody #Fatal4."

However, in custody the medical professional was unable to find a vein on either individual to draw blood for further testing.

North Yorkshire RPG said: "Frustrating as it is, unfortunately the law states that for a section 5A drug driving offence only (no impairment and not unfit) the sample has to be of blood."

Both individuals were released without charge and no further action will be taken.
