MOTORISTS who drive dangerously on County Durham's roads have been warned “you will be banned”.

The statement from Durham Police comes after a recent court case which showed a 4x4 vehicle swerving in and out of lanes on the A19 in County Durham.

The footage, which was released by police on Monday, was recorded on a dash mounted camera.

Police say the driver of the vehicle, a 33-year-old man from Houghton-le-Spring, was given a 19 month suspended sentence, banned from driving for two years and ordered to pay £3,500 in costs and £200 in compensation when he was dealt with on Friday.

Roads Policing Unit Sergeant Jonathan Morgan, from Durham and Cleveland’s Specialist Operations Unit, said: “Drivers need to be aware that this type of driving is extremely dangerous to other road users and themselves and will not be tolerated.

“We will take allegations of dangerous driving seriously and we will act upon reports from members of the public. We will find you, you will be arrested and you will be banned.”
