A SUSPECTED drink-driver fled the scene of a crash in Darlington at the weekend.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, a BMW ploughed into two parked vehicles, one a Hyundai i30 (pictured below), and a garden wall in the Harrowgate Hill area.

The Northern Echo:

Residents woken by the smash saw the car’s occupants – two men and two women – flee on foot before the emergency services arrived.

A fire crew, ambulance and police attended the scene on Glebe Road, along with a TV crew filming for Police Interceptors.

Darlington Police’s duty inspector Caroline Shields said no injuries had resulted from the crash and confirmed officers were investigating and had seized the vehicle.

She said: “Because this happened in the early hours, we suspect it was alcohol related.

“Two men and two women were seen running out of the vehicle and our enquiries are ongoing to try and find those involved.

Anyone with information about the crash, which happened at around 1am on Saturday, should contact PC Adey of Durham Constabulary’s road policing unit on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
