THREE football fans have been arrested after fighting broke out following Newcastle's cup defeat on Wednesday night.
"Police have arrested three people on suspicion of public order offences following the match at St James' Park this evening," said a spokeswoman for Northumbria Police.
"At around 9.50pm fighting broke out among a group of opposing football supporters in Barrack Road, near to the stadium.
"Officers stopped the fighting and cleared the area."
Two men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of public order offences and are currently in police custody.
Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who was in the area and who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference number 832 23/09/15.
