A WOMAN suffered a broken hip during a terrifying ordeal when she was attacked on her doorstep.

The 62-year-old is in hospital awaiting surgery after she suffered her injury when the intruder pushed her to the floor during the attempted robbery at the house on Southwell Road in Middlesbrough at about 3pm on Saturday (August 15).

The suspect knocked on the door of the property and when the victim opened it she was pushed to the floor and the man demanded cash.

The woman managed to flee towards a neighbour’s house but was pursued by the suspect who dragged her back to her home and pushed her to the ground which resulted in her suffering a fractured hip.

The woman is in James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, awaiting surgery.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6ft tall, average build with greying ginger stubble. He spoke with a local accent and wore a hooded jacket.

Detective Inspector John Wrintmore said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the victim involved and detectives are working hard to find the person responsible. We believe the suspect is local and there will be people in the community that may have some information on who this person might be.

"Incidents of this nature are thankfully rare and we would encourage anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to contact us."
