A HAIRDRESSER has been jailed after tying up a woman he had sex with and driving around town with her in bound up in the boot of her own car.

Teesside Crown Court heard Richard David Pollard even went into a Middlesbrough hair salon and told staff to 'come out here and have a look at this' - pointing to the woman in the Renault Clio hatchback.

The 29-year-old was jailed for eight months after admitting three counts of assault and two of criminal damage . He was also ordered to pay £400 compensation to his victim as well as a £900 criminal court charge.

A ten-year restraining order was also imposed on the father-of-one, banning him from contacting her on his release.

Mathew Bean, prosecuting, said Pollard, who had been drinking vodka and had taken cocaine, and the Middlesbrough woman had consensual sex in her home on Monday, May 11 this year.

He said Pollard had tied a dressing gown cord around her neck and then tied her hands and put her in the boot of the woman's own car. He then drove around Middlesbrough in broad daylight.

Mr Bean said Pollard, of Dunlin Close, Norton, near Stockton, stopped the car on Oxford Road in Linthorpe, opened the boot and "staggered" into a hair salon saying, 'come out here and have a look at this,' but was told to leave.

He then pulled the woman from the boot and was seen ridiculing her in front of a nearby barber's, which had several children inside.

The woman managed to loosen the ropes and the pair got in the car where Pollard was seen elbowing her in the head until she fell unconscious. He also repeatedly banged the car door against a sign, causing significant damage.

Police were called and Pollard was arrested and the woman was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment.

The court heard in the previous days Pollard had spat in the woman's face, kicked a wing mirror off her car and pushed her inside her own home causing her to fall and break a finger.

Peter Kilgour, defending, said his client was of previous good character with no previous convictions and should be given credit for his guilty pleas.

Judge Simon Hickey told Pollard his behaviour had been "unpleasant and revolting" and "bizarre" adding: "You started to hit her until you made her slump unconscious, a serious assault."
