POLICE have made an arrest after a knife was wielded in a robbery at a North-East barbers.
The incident happened around 4.25pm on Friday at Scottys Barber Shop in Green Lane, South Shields.
Northumbria Police said a man threatened staff in the barber shop with a knife before making off.
No-one was injured in the incident.
A 21-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of robbery and is currently in police custody.
Extra officers are in the area to speak to the local community and offer reassurance.
Inspector Steve Appleton, of Northumbria Police, said: "We know incidents such as this cause concern to the local community and I'd like to reassure people that extra officers will remain in the area.
"I'd ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could help in our enquiries to come forward and get in contact."
